A MAN WE SHOULD KNOW: MICHAEL BRATTON R.I.P.

Michael was not only a good friend of mine but a label mate & a great musical genus. We spent most of our time talking about the world, music & ideas at my house for hours. We enjoyed many great moments while creating stepping stones in each others history in music. I was the photographer for his first show & he was in the front row supporting me at mine when I was a nervous wreck.

I never knew someone soooo devoted to music that he could go off the grid for months, not speaking to anyone till the project was done. From December 2009 to March 2011 having 6 albums completed for the public. I know for a fact he has about 40 unreleased including our group album, WE ARE THE MUSIC MAKERS.

April 10th 2011 I was crushed with the news that he had passed away. Instead of thinking about what more we could of done I think about all we have achieved. As I type this now I play the music you shared with me & not yet the world. Now I understand why our work will never be finished,  its because our work is endless. Michael Bratton I love you brother, R.I.P.

MAN WE SHOULD KNOW MONDAYS: CURREN$Y

Curren$y,or The Hot Spitta or Spitta the first act signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment label through Cash Money Records. Hailing from the suburbs of New Orleans, Da Hot Spitta is a brash young lyricist following in the footsteps of his brother and former 504 Boyz member, Mr. Marcelo. Through Marcelo’s affiliation with No Limit Records, Curren$y befriended C-Murder and eventually signed to his TRU Records imprint, and Master P's the 504 Boyz, appearing on a limited amount of material with the group (though he was often credited as "504 Boyz featuring Currency", making his membership in the group appear minor at best). But due to C’s constant run-ins with the law, which culminated in a 25-to-life prison sentence for murder, Curren$y gave up on hip-hop, shifting his focus to skateboarding and fashion design. A chance meeting with Lil Wayne at a New Orleans Hornets basketball game in 2005 would steer him back to rap. The two actually attended elementary school together and Wayne was shocked to hear his former classmate had quit rappin’. Familiar with Curren$y’s work with No Limit, Birdman Jr. suggested he reconsider retirement. It wasn’t long before the N’awlins natives were in the studio together recording music and Wayne offered Curren$y a deal. Since then, he’s built a modest buzz through appearances on Wayne’s mixtapes, including Dedication 2, which spawned the regional hit, “Where Da Cash At.” His industry stock rose even further after his guest spot on “Grown Man” off Wayne’s critically acclaimed Tha Carter II. He is included in the song "Motha Fuck You" which is found on Soulja Slim's album Years Later. He was planned to be the first artist released on Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment label.Currency left Cash Money Records in December 2007 due to no recognition and promotion. He is now signed with Terry Kennedy's Fly Society. He has since put out the mixtape Independence Day. He plans on releasing his debut album Music To Fly To in June 2008 Currency has come out with an underground hit song called "Where Da Cash At", which can be heard on several of Lil' Wayne's mixtapes, including The Dedication 2. 2010, he joined the Def Jam family via Damon Dash’s imprint DD172. With the label’s in-house producer Ski Beatz handling most of the production, Curren$y's Pilot Talk album appeared in July of that year &  Pilot Talk 2 was released on November 16, 2010. Now he is still rolling up & riding with Wiz Khalifa. Get to know em.

  • So let me get this straight...when Ski Beatz' video "Nothing But Us" premiered on VEVO, a lot of those suburban kids hated Curren$y and said he was wack. Strangely, they love Wiz Khalifa's "Black And Yellow" and Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On"- two songs that are too awful for words.
On behalf of all the real hip hop heads, I'd like to say this:
Do us all a favor and stop listening to hip hop right now!!!!

NOW PLAYING: CLOCKWORK ORANGE THE SOUNDTRACK

This is a world with no values, no future, no rules, a world where parents do not seem to have any control over their kids, the young boys and girls only care about their own instant gratification in the form of sex, consumption or aimless violence, and the authorities are unable to take control.
